Recently two issue have created storm in Jain community. They are
i) Meat Ban on Paryushan days in India if it is appropriate ?.
ii) Santaravrata- whether it is a form of suicide? Need to ban.
Local Jain forum has arranged lectures of eminent devotees of our Jain religion. Since I have already covered Santaravrata in my earlier blog, I am covering extract from those lectures related to meat ban and reaction to it by some elements. One can go for individual own thinking on the subject since it amounts to crucial religious issue.
1.The speaker said "Meat ban was proposed by State Government. Due to opposition the issues were handled by Honorable Court which given verdict against such ban. Since it is court's order no doubt one has to agree with it .But I am here to express my views as a citizen of this great country since the issues has created issues.
It is alright that we are democratic country and driven by non-alignment policies. In such background nothing can be forced on any one. In my analysis it is a favor to superiority of human race. It underlies that superior power can act as per it's choice and whims.
Slowly ,we are adopting Might is Right doctrine. In the process we are ignoring Truth. Thus any one can kill some living animal- to serve his food and other needs .I feel it is shameful for all of us.
Indirectly we are allowing super race to have own rules for living, thus if tomorrow some super alien came to earth and decides to kill human and use it as food to quench it's taste and hunger we should not have objection or complaint.
In same way we are justifying the misdeeds of foreign rulers of past including their killings of our innocent people. On humanitarian ground can we face Almighty /Karma with such bloody hands----?
How killing of living element can be basic right, when every one wants to live, I failed to understand. One has to understand the legacy of Indian Culture and basic of Jainism. Leaving aside the religion, if one rethinks then certainly he will give more preference to life than taste. I hope good sense will prevail to do things correct.
One can smell vote bank politics to polarize the sentiments based on religion. Otherwise it was a matter of few days of a particular week of Paryusan. Brotherhood, respect to honor each other's faith and
communal harmony is vanishing fast. Let us hope and pray such incidents will not happen " he concluded his feelings.
2. Second speaker spoke "We have Bhagwan Mahaveer's Anekantwaad theory which allows different views on a given subject. So we shall not feel bad for it. Knowing correct things is not a quick process .It requires reading and rational thinking in presence of right teacher. So when the correct knowledge creeps in the wrong beliefs if any will vanish. I hope. Let us be hopeful.
Ultimately truth will prevail as per "Live and Let Live "theory.
So let us pray to have correct knowledge to all of us. He paused.
There are so many personalities which turned into vegetarian in later stage of life. There was a famous emperor who kept fast on each Friday. Always hope for a bright future which will emphasis value of life than taste. Ray of knowledge spread, darkness will definitely go.
More over it was a verdict on only one issue whether ban violates the fundamental right of human, the second issue whether the non human living souls have right to live or not is yet to be decided. So need not to worry, the day will definitely rise and come.
There was pin drop silence in room. I was pleased to see that at least there are some one who can speak on behalf of animals who cannot speak. Sooner they may have justice offered by by human.
