SAMAIK-INTRODUCTION TO PRATIKAMAN----------!!!

One can engage himself in Pratikaman in Samaik. Pratikaman is very essential component of Jainism. Aakraman is a known Hindi word. It means attack. Pratikaman is it's opposite. It is going back from what you did with sense of apology. It is daily cleaning of the our own
soul by a deep look into it. It involves self review of your all action on daily basis and feel sorry for misdeeds. Bhagwan termed it as a "Aavashyak Sutra".Aavashyak means compulsory daily twice times.
If you find any action done was unfair and might have caused pain to others ,you have to express regret. Pratikaman means you agree that certain sins and conduct were not worth doing it but due to the some  circumstances you have done it. Now while looking back, you regret the actions and say sorry for it. You also decides not to do it again or at least try to reduce it. Here you indirectly approve that what Pujya Bhagwan Mahaveer told is worth following but you failed to do it. For it now you have sense of falling in duty now- doing Pratikamn.
Pratikaman is being divided into six parts as  per following lines.
1-Samaik-It is taking vow for going for due Pratikaman in Samaik.
2-Loggas.-Praise of 24 Tirthankrs.
3-Vandana by Khamasana  2 Path to Arihant and Siddha Parmatma.
4-Pratikaman-- It is for 12 Sthul Vrata. Sthul means overall.
(for committed sins) and 12 Anuvrata( for sins not to commit in future -now deciding) with Vandana to 5 Padas of Panchparmesthi.
5-Karyotsarga It is Dyan with Loggas. Number of Loggas are differ for routine days and other days. They are-- Devasi (Before sunrise ) Rayasi (After sunset ) x 4 each, Pakkhi ( On full moon day) x 12, and Chomasi Pakkhi ( 3 quarterly full moon day Pakkhi ) x 20.
and Sawastari 40----Physical moments needs to be avoided as a rule.
6-Prathykhan--Taking some Niyam or vow for a particular day.
Complete Pratikaman covers five Pratikamans- Mitthyatava, Avrat,
Kashay, Pramad and Ashubhyog Ka Pratikaman.

True Shravakji and Sadhuji do daily two Pratikamans. However others can adjust as per time availability. One shall try not to miss Pakkhi Pratikaman. It can be learned within a month. Once familiar with it then take 48 minutes for completion. Main part is 4th one. It seeks apology for all misdeeds i.e. 14 of knowledge.5 for faith,5 for Salenkhna and 75 of 12 Vrata- total 99 types of sins for Shrawak.

Once you do it the coverage of misdeeds is not completely removed but the Bandh (attachment) is reduced to lower grade. In Pratikaman one has to review- the flash back of the particular day and express regret through mind and shall decide not to repeat the mistake to clean the soul .It is a good tool to  convert sins to milder version.
As we know crystal clean soul is basic condition to attain salvation. Bhagwan has termed it as "Aawashyakasutra" means a compulsory one. It denotes it's importance and emphasis doing it twice in a day.
